Success is built on relationships

Time after time, I am reminded that while the core of any business may be its products and services, real success comes from great relationships. When you get right down to it, a business isn't anything more than a collection of people; it’s their unique perspectives, their shared and individual experiences, and their talents. It just keeps hitting me over and over - and the proof of that is that there are very few people in the Spearhead Group that we didn't know before we started Spearhead, and there is not one person in this group who wasn't introduced and recommended by someone we know and trust.  

One recent example is that Giselle Mudge became available to freelance last month while she was in between jobs. Having known and worked with Giselle for 5 years, I knew that she is far and away the best person to audit our logistics and inventory SOP’s for best practices and find areas for improvement, so Spearhead can keep meeting our own continuous improvement goals and we can continue to give the best in class service we are known for. 

Giselle and I haven’t worked together for nearly two years – but we’ve been each others’ cheerleaders for more than 5 years and that’s why I brought her on as a consultant. We've both benefitted from our agreement to work together for this month before her new job starts - so do you see what I mean? We've both succeeded at something this August because we built a great relationship starting 7 years ago.

So please make sure you stay in touch with your past colleagues and clients. Sing their praises and share their successes. Keep them in mind and share job opportunities. Keep cheerleading and keep building genuine relationships with people that you can trust and admire, and help and support your network any way you can.
