This Is Success

Aware that LinkedIn Real intention when invited me to talk about my idea of success was strictly work related, I will take a slight deviation and I will focus more on a personal aspect of success that somehow it is still related to work.

The success of being a father while having a brilliant career.

On the 22nd of July 2013, at St. Mary’s Hospital in London, Lorenzo Akatama Picchianti was coming to life, just 50 meters and 40 minutes apart from Prince George birth, marking a special arrive in our life since the beginning.

At the same time, I was starting a new role in the City after the fantastic experience of delivering and supporting the core IT Infrastructure at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In September 2012, as soon the games had finished, me and my partner decided to have a baby. At that time, honestly I was thinking that the greatest success in my life was the game's delivery, a real power-trip where you feel part of history of sport and technology, I was wrong, the real success started with the decision that we were ready to bring in our life a new human being, raise him and teach him the same values our parents have transmitted to us, and doing so in a large city as London is the real challenge. Lorenzo is now 4, and like every parent we think that he is fantastic, sweet and funny , caring and good hearted.

Despite the fact that after the games my career brought me to manage the TFL payments Infrastructure(Oyster cards etc..), the TFL’s core infrastructure and more recently the whole infrastructure providing the National Lottery services and games, my greatest success has been to be always a present parent despite the energy and the effort that I needed to progress upwards in my career.

That was the real success.
