Success: the accomplishment of an aim or purpose

Helping in-house legal and law firms navigate the world of legal transformation
Well, this is quite a milestone. Edition 6 of The Legal Transformation 5, which means I’ve been collating this content for you for half a year! I hope during this time you’ve found it interesting and will continue to look forward to my monthly digest. As always if you have any suggestions – articles, videos, podcasts etc. - that you think are worthy of sharing, please let me know.
This month’s edition is loosely based around the theme of success. As we approach the end of the year it's always good to celebrate a few successes and see the year out on a positive note.
So here we go, my Legal Transformation 5…
Read
As is traditional at this time of year, the internet is groaning under the weight of articles sharing predications and advice for 2023. Fortunately you’ve got me to dig out the content that offers useful insights rather than “teaching your grandmother to suck eggs” such as this article on Wolters Kluwer site - which is in the former camp.
Nathan Cemenska JD-MBA says that success in 2023 is all about balancing short-term and long-term planning and being flexible. Having realistic plan Bs are important, I would suggest that it wouldn’t overkill to have a plan C too.
Learn
How do you know which legal workflows and activities would benefit most from process improvements or legal tech solutions? How can you increase your chances of a successful deployment that makes a real difference to your legal team and delivers the expected ROI?
In this article I share my best practices for identifying the areas that are ripe for innovation and, if handled correctly, will help in-house legal improve efficiency, manage risk better and make everyone’s lives that bit easier.
Celebrate
The FT celebrates and highlights the successes of five individuals from the world of legal transformation in this article. They stand out because they've all questioned the status quo and had the vision to come up with innovative and successful ideas for doing things better. They are:

Conference
Congratulations to Richard Tromans for another successful Legal Innovators conference this month. Sadly I was unable to attend but I have spoken to several people who were lucky enough to be there, and heard rave reviews!
While I could share Richard’s own write up of his event (go on then,?here’s the link) it’s always better to get some insight from someone else. That someone is Max Lunn who covers tech and innovation for Maddyness . In his article Max highlights a key theme of the conference, the conflict between conversative lawyers and legal innovators. As I know from first-hand experience, this inherent conservatism can quickly put the dampers on any transformation project. It’s cultural issue, but one that the industry is aware of and appears to be making moves to address. Watch out for Chrissie Lightfoot ’s next edition of Technology in Law Law Land, from Modern Law Magazine , which sources tell me is all about culture!
Awards
More success stories were celebrated this month at the British Legal Technology Awards. The awards recognised excellence in legal technology, IT security, leadership & innovation, as well as the individuals, teams and suppliers transforming the future of legal services. Congratulations to all the winners and runners up!
That’s it for this month and as it’s almost December and The Legal Transformation 5 won’t be back until after Christmas, seasons greetings and I hope you all enjoy the festive holidays.
