Succeeding Despite Academic Struggles
We all have strengths and weaknesses when it comes to academics. For some, studying and test-taking comes naturally. For others, like myself, formal education is a real challenge. I realized early on that the traditional academic path was not how I was going to succeed.
Rather than get discouraged, I looked for alternative routes that played to my strengths. I may not have been book smart, but I understood the power of relationships. While I struggled in the classroom, I devoted time to building connections with fellow students, professors, and professionals in fields that interested me.
Here are three keys to succeeding even if you are not academically gifted:
The traditional education system rewards a narrow range of talents. But the world needs people with diverse abilities. Rather than force ourselves into boxes we don't fit, we can forge new paths by connecting with others and leading with our innate talents. If school is a struggle, network with those around you and stay encouraged! There are many ways up the mountain.
