Call for Submissions to Argumentation and Advocacy 2023

As the new editor for Argumentation and Advocacy, I am pleased to make this call for your submissions to our journal.?I am thankful for the service of previous editors including my immediate predecessor Dr. Beth Innocenti.?I seek to continue the excellence of our journal pioneered by her and previous editors aimed at gathering the best scholarly work available worldwide on the question of argumentation and advocacy.?My own unique perspective on the journal’s work during my tenure from 2023-2025 includes:

  1. Increasing submissions from traditional American Forensics Association members.?Collegiate speech and debate coaches are the backbone of AFA activity and this is their journal.?I seek more submissions from these field specialists and clarifications of our current competitive speech and debate activities. ?
  2. Increased international submissions with a special emphasis on Africa.?We will have a special issue on Africa for March 2024.?More information will be forthcoming about special issue editor for that issue. ?
  3. Emphasis upon argumentation and its role in American and global civics.?My research approach emphasizes argumentation as an antithesis to propaganda.?Propaganda is the rhetorical fuel of profound civic dysfunctions.?Understanding argumentation and advocacy roles in reforming civics is worthy research goal and a basis for scholarly work to connect with meaningful human needs. ?
  4. Relating to this third goal there will be at least one special issue regarding Presidential debates 2024.?There is considerable risk that Presidential debates may not happen in the U.S. in the 2024 Presidential election cycle.?I hope to have a special issue in May 2024 regarding prospective improvements and/or enactments of these debates for the fall election season.?This can also serve as a catalyst to general research interest as to how more elections in the United States and abroad might feature debates to produce informed electorates.?Ideally there will also be a special issue examining the results of presidential debates in the spring of 2025. ?
  5. I am also seeking a special issue on Christianity and Argument.?This issue will have a deadline of December 2023.?Religion is an important sociological and rhetorical component to human meaning.?Christianity is the largest global religion and has clear argumentation relationships to American civic rhetoric.?The journal has significant articles on the is topic within its history.
  6. Emphasis on ongoing argumentation research on locales such as NCA, ALTA, and topic papers in the debate community.??

I hope your new year will include an ambition to submit articles to our journal.?Whether you have submitted successfully in the past or you are a new and prospective scholar, my hope is you will find Argumentation and Advocacy to be an important part of your scholarly development.?Please reach out to me with your questions about how to make our journal part of your academic growth. ?
