SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES THROUGH MOVIES

This is taken directly from the book "Emails Of Unethical Psychologist" Every Saturday night after my psychologist took me out to dinner we would go back to his place and watch a movie that he selected. He picked the movies carefully to "show me something about himself" through the movies. There was always "a subliminal message" for me to decipher. He told me, while watching the movie "Ordinary People" that this was the catalyst for him becoming a psychologist. The movie Seabiscuit was about an owner of a small, losing horse (similar to my psychologist) that sees something special in him and turns him around into an icon during the great depression. In fact, my psychologist had a dream about horses that turned into a 3 HOUR PHONE CALL on a Sunday night when I was his patient!

Here is the email I sent him after watching the movie:

I've done a lot of soul searching over what happened and especially around Saturday night. I know why you showed me the movie Seabiscuit and I know what you have been looking for all along in this relationship, but to tell you the truth I have been feeling used. I know you need/desire healing and you feel?that through the relationship with me that we can both achieve that. But I am NOT looking for the relationship to heal me. In fact, I think the relationship is quite toxic.

?I see you as wanting all the benefits of a commitment without the obligations. I have been feeling that all along but Saturday night after watching the movie and you crying and opening up about your past made me feel that oh so strongly. I feel like I have abandoned you, even though I am NOT your therapist. But I feel that you lean on me as one and NOT as someone you want a romantic commitment with, which is what I was looking for in you.
