Singularity University Rome's Chapter Launch

"Positively impact the lives of a billion people".

This is the MTP (Massive Transformative Purpose, following ExO, book coauthored by other prominent Singularitarians, see related post) Peter Diamandis gave to (one of many of) its brainchild organisation, Singularity University 

And seldom in history has an organisation ever concocted a bolder (quoting Peter's work) mission statement.

Whether you agree with this aim, or the slightly more conservative

"to educate, inspire and empower leaders to apply exponential technologies to address humanity's grand challenges"

or there again BloombergTV definition of SU:

"where the world's brightest minds convene to attack the world's toughest challenges"

we are not talking about your standard academic organisation.

So what has all this got to do with Italy and Rome, where the problems are more down to earth?

Well, you cant solve any of the issues if you first do not address the mindset, and this is what Singularity is all about. An organisation to empower and educate people.

Do we need it in Italy and Rome?

We certainly do, as much as we need breathable air.

The state of things chez nous is so severe that if we just keep watching in another direction we will soon run against the wall.

Time - our scarcest resource as human being - is limited.

So this is a call to action for all people of good will, for all these many young minds who feel deprived of their future because we have not been innovating for far too long.

Get involved!

Things can change, if and only we can think and want them to change.

You will meet at SU like minded people.

Where there is a desire to make, build and innovate.

Where there is the perception that we can head for a better future.

We sure can, but need everybody's involvement.

So amidst a cocktail, some great and inspiring speeches (after the opening remarks by our kind host and PI Campus first citizen Marco Trombetti, the organiser and social media strategist Luca la Mesa, but also nonetheless than Riccardo Prodam, Federico Pistono, Lucrezia Bisignani all contributing their expertise and enthusiasm to the night) and a dear lot of networking the night ran smoothly. 

Thank you Luca, thank you Marco for putting it all together and giving us the opportunity.

Thank you to all invitees and attendees who favoured their time.
