Stylishly sustainable: Nespresso x Mammut Extraordinary Jacket

My friends know that I love hiking and skiing, reveling in the beauty of Swiss nature. Whenever I can, I’m out exploring our glorious Alps. But I also love design, aesthetics and harmony. Whether hiking or working, harmony is a cornerstone of how I approach life. That’s me personally.

In our world of Nespresso coffee, the concept of harmony is reflected in a circular approach. We believe the value chain of the future is circular, meaning no resource should be thrown away. We’re on a path to leave a lighter footprint on earth, to use nature-based solutions to coffee farming, to showcase uses for recycled aluminum.

Enter our collaboration with Swiss mountain gear manufacturer, Mammut: a cold weather jacket that incorporates recycled capsule aluminum in its insulation[1], trapping your body’s radiant heat in its layers, so you don’t have to produce more energy to stay warm. In fact, it allows you to retain 20% more body heat above the tree line than with standard outwear of a similar thickness. The design is amazing - stylishly slimming the silhouette thanks to the thin insulation layer - but as well, it’s terrifically light, not heavy on the body. ?So whilst giving such strong protection against the cold, we have aligned beauty with functionality.

Dubbed the Extraordinary Jacket, the hooded zip-up comes in two coffee colours, beige and black, a tribute to two of our most beloved original capsules, Ristretto and Cosi. The fabric itself was created by Swiss textile innovator, HeiQ, another illustration of the crazy new ideas that our sweet Alpine air inspires in local companies!

To be clear, the Extraordinary Jacket will not upcycle all our capsules, nor will a Caran d’Ache pen. But they are symbolic of what can be done and the direction we are moving in. If we consciously consume - thinking about what we use and how much – we can all start to contribute to a circular economy. And still support Swiss design.
