Style, Resilience, Charisma

Are you a good person? Are you trying to change the world? Are you tired of trying? Do you feel that your opponents are way stronger than you? Do you feel that the game is heavily biased against you? Do you feel it is tougher to deliver value than just engage in quackery that actually gets you quick cash? Then, this article is for you, this article is to celebrate your personality and your commitment. Also, to also show a new direction to you.

I will just take you through a few scenes of the movie Darbaar. I believe just these words can trigger a new emotion and show a new direction to you. I hope these words can seed reflection within you- to make you connect with the Thalaiva within you, to make you feel like the champ that you are, and thus acquit grit and determination to march longer, even stronger, this time like "a villain"! Wondering why the pic of the kid? Read on, trust me article ends with an emotionally charging high.

Rajnikanth plays Aditya Arunasalam, Mumbai City Police Commissioner in the film Darbaar. He is a rockstar cop who has a charismatic style that gets him a huge fan following as well as hate. He takes it all on a positive stride and enjoys solving challenge after challenge. He demonstrates great spirit as well as psychological acumen- winning mind games after mind games. He is that monster that intimidates the worst of villains.

Aditya Arunasalam has to go after Hari Chopra, a dreaded criminal, who is the most wanted catch by police across the world. Hari Chopra had burnt 57 police officers alive, 27years ago on March 12th. Aditya is forced to go after Hari Chopra as Aditya kills Hari's son. Aditya gets to know much later that the one whom he killed was Hari's son. He uses his intelligence to investigate this. He uses a deduction- if the guy gives his son to someone else to raise him, he must be a criminal. He gets birth records, and parent records during the time of birth of the killed criminals. He matches these records with the criminal records of Mumbai. International media then reports that Aditya Arunasalam has traced Hari Chopra.

However, things slowly start going downhill for the rockstar cop. He has politically motivated human rights allegations against him. His daughter is killed by the villains. She records a video before dying. She tells him that his enemies think he is done once they kill her. She asks him to get twice stronger after her death, she asks for his word. She tells him that her back is paining. It is a horror for a father to know that his daughter knew her time of death, and recorded a video because he was hospitalized at the same time. He was a loner with only a daughter to live for.

People hated him for his behavior. He did what was right for the people, not for himself. He had a huge fan following too. That's baggage of emotions and daily stress to deal with, isn't it? How would such a loner deal with a barrage of arrows coming towards him- loss of his daughter, suspension from his job on the grounds of poor fitness. He then trains hard and gets his job back. People tell him that it is impossible to prove his fitness at that age after such a nasty injury. But his badass personality coupled with his daughter's last wish helps him take on the uphill challenge.

The game doesn't end there. Aditya Arunachalam traces the location of the villain, but the police estimate about 1000 goons at the location. Aditya uses his intelligence to connect the dots and the genius in him gets the location, but does he have the cops to go and get him? Aditya Arunasalam uses Michael Graemer method to trace the villain. He offers an incentive to imprisoned criminals who can offer any information about the villain.

At the same time, police from different countries (London, Dubai, Chennai) offer their services to India. The swag moment is when Rajnikanth introduces himself as Aditya Arunsalam, Commissioner of Mumbai Police, India! Aditya Arunachalam refuses their help and says Mumbai Police will get him. The villain gets disturbed once he hears that Aditya had used the Michael Graemer method. He announces a bounty for people who kill a cop and get his stars. A lot of cops are killed on the same day. The cops refuse to report to work. Fear erupts amongst the people, the media, and the cops.

The cops plead Aditya, they request him to take the help of the London Police and the others who offered help. Aditya says I will catch Hari Chopra (villain) and if London Police need to catch any criminal, they'd then ask Mumbai Police for help. Look at the attitude and the style of Aditya here. His chips may be down, but his attitude and his charm are never down. This is probably what gets him a huge fan following and hate following. A wounded tiger is probably more dangerous and you see that in the eyes of Aditya Arunasalam.

Aditya walks out of the police station and sees all the police outside the head office. They salute him and shout "We are ready sir, police is not a job, it is a service, we live to protect and die to serve".What other medicine would a wonder badass police commissioner need? Didn't he live for these values? Are values limited to doing good, or do they also talk of his action and how he would respond to evil? Do his values also talk of 10X effort and courage when the evil gets stronger? Isn't this why characters like Aditya Arunsalam are celebrated in movies, comics, and also in religious mythological tales?

Aditya then catches Hari Chopra and kills him in the police station where Hari Chopra burnt those 57 cops. The police station is now a memorial. He avenges the death of several police officers. Hari Chopra provokes Aditya by reminding him how he had tortured Aditya's daughter before killing her. Aditya had killed the criminal, he brought normalcy to Mumbai. But the collateral damage is massive- he lost the lives of several cops and his own daughter So how would his life now go back to normal? Then comes that moment in the movie that would give him the fuel to go through another 100 such journeys!

A little kid, whose father was burnt alive 27yrs back, comes to the memorial to present flowers to his father's grave. The little kid is dressed as a police. Hari Chopra could burn his father, but couldn't kill the courage in the bloodline. The little champ lights a candle is going back home. He sees Aditya Arunasalam. turns back and then salutes him. Aditya then smiles and salutes back and boy that's a perfect salute. I wonder if there could be a better definition of bliss. A rockstar cop has a lot of wounds, he perseveres to finally end the evil. His wounds are healed by seeing the next generation's spirit!

Is it cute or is it uplifting? Probably both, to see a wounded veteran and a determined kid together. The music then takes off! So many people may have hated Aditya, he may have gone through ups and downs, but a little kid gets inspired by Aditya and wishes to go on the same path. The rare altruistic badass tribe will go on! Aditya gets the feeling of a lifetime and that manifests through a near-perfect salute!

We look at the charisma of characters like Aditya Arunasalam. In the real world, we probably have icons like Steve Jobs and Abraham Lincoln who demonstrate such charisma. But what is the anatomy of this charisma and resilience? Well, it comes from their style. Style makes you celebrate every little effort of yours. Style makes you celebrate your uniqueness, makes you think differently, and gives you energy at each step. Style transforms all your negative energies into positive badass villain energies.

So the next time when you watch a South Indian movie, do you look at it as a film or a reservoir of exaggerated emotions. Do you need those exaggerated emotions to inject the badass style within you? Don't you need 3X positive exaggerated emotion to counter 1X negative around you? Don't we have a lot of negativity around us? No worries! We have Rajnikanth movies with us, to inject that style within us, isn't it?
