Is Style a Luxury or Necessity?

The argument is continually out there if investing in your personal presentation is an unnecessary luxury or a necessity when it comes to personal and professional development.

My opinion always has been- a necessary luxury that entails a daily self care ritual - a mind and body experience of beautifying, enriching oneself....leading to a positive outcome.

Necessary for these reasons:

In order to give your best, you want to be feeling your best. What you convey on the outside to the world is a representation of what is going on inside.

If you value yourself highly, confidently acknowledge your uniqueness, brilliance, limitations & potential, then how you show up physically - your style- is a natural way to demonstrate all these traits + more, without even speaking.

In this insta gratification world where it comes down to nano-seconds, getting the visual right is a necessary step to refine.

Investing in your inner: mind, education, health, fitness + your outer: physical appearance, style are equally as important when we look at the whole scope of personal development. One doesn't work effectively without the other. And nor is one more fickle than the other. It's our given right as human beings to want to feel and be our best inside and out.

Luxury for these reasons:

The ritual of dressing in items you love and that convey your messages is a luxury we can all attain. It's irrelevant the cost of your beauty regime, clothes and items, it's in how you place them together and what they mean for you.

That very ritual of beautifying yourself & your surroundings with the items that are meaningful for you is a luxury not to be taken for granted. That feeling of knowing what looks great on you and striding with confidence, is an intoxicating luxurious experience.

When you blend the necessity + the luxury, you have a charming power - that of a confident, fearless person predominately driven by her/his self worth, not external factors. The style they choose is how they convey their messages - their visual voice.

This quote below from Aristotle although referring to Art, I see it the same way with your style. This quote highlights the ability of art to transcend surface-level appearances and reveal deeper truths about the human experience.

Once you understand the power of clothes, dressing up is not a trivial act or vanity, but a decisive act. It is an act of self care, one of self love, and one of truth.

That is why Style, your style, is indeed a Necessary Luxury.
