Style can help you to feel anchored

Meet ANNE-MARIE LECORDIER, style coach, founder and designer of AML Paris Fashion brand => article in French on MyVestiaire.me's website here.

"Style is important: it can help you to feel anchored "

Anne-Marie has had many lives: she was born in Hanoi and grew up between Vietnam, Cambodia and China. Young adult, she joined Air France as stewardess and then chef de cabine. She spent there 31 years, travelled all over the world and sharpened her eye. Thanks to her acute sense of beauty and elegance, her friends and colleagues naturally turned to her to help them develop and choose the appropriate dress according to the position they are looking after: head of Concorde cabine, project manager etc.

At the age of 55, "retired" from Air France, determined to get fully involved, body and soul, into a second professional life, and with her experience as style coach, she decides to maker this her profession and in parallel she launched her own fashion brand a few years later: AML PARIS, joyful and colorful dresses, shirts, accessories and decoration accessories. I'll write again about it.

Anne-Marie is a Parisian star in style coaching, she participated many times to the great ELLE Active forums from @anne-cécile Sarfati. On a beautiful May morning, I had the honor of being welcomed at her place where with great generosity, she talked about herself and distilled her contagious solar energy and her abundant creativity. You will discover all this and her valuable advices in the interview below but also in her clothing line, AML Paris! Trust me, they have something magical! You'll feel immediately anchored and shiner: in a word "empowered"! What we should always feel in the morning when leaving home!

Empowered *: for those who are not sure of what it means, it refers to the ability to do something independently; by extension it is the mental state that strength, confidence and energy confer

Your relationship to clothes and style, has it been transmitted by your educator ration/ family ?

My childhood in Asia, its light and its colors influenced me a lot. My parents were very elegant: my mother has taught me the meaning of beauty, and how to be relevant and accurate with little. Quality is all when you have little. It helps to last and be meaningful. In my life I had times with money and others with much less: I learned how to build "low budget" impactful wardrobes and looks.

Why is elegance so important ?

ANNE-MARIE

Being elegant means displaying slightly your inner glow with what you wear: and this is the most important. To achieve this, a form of introspection is necessary. You can not improvise and learn in 5 minutes know how to be right according to the context and to the people you meet. It is built over the years. For some, it's almost innate, but in fact it's mostly cultural: because they grew up in an environment where the meaning of beauty, fairness and elegance mattered. For others, this can be learned by asking for help and guidance. The objective is to respect who you are deeply. Style is important because it helps to be and show anchored and to take your place. It must first and foremost suit the person and be validated by the person.

Being dashing & fresh is a form of politeness, of respect for others and of course for oneself. Get to know how to develop with discretion; to know how to balance without being ostentatious and conspiscious. I think women are so lucky to be women! Developing our femininity: what an asset for oneself and for others! A company that empower women to grow professionally without denying their femininity gives itself an additional asset for economic success.

What does a great style coach can bring to oneself ?

A lot of benevolence: when they tell about their relation to their clothes, these men and women express a fragile and intimate part of themselves. It is very touching. We are not there to judge them and tell them how they should dress. We are not doing spectacular relooking, we are there to accompany them in taking a fresh look, a step back on their body, put words on what they like and especially help them to compose outfits, to associate things with each other. By and large we give them the tools to sharpen their look on their own style and help them get on track.

My job is to help my clients to relate things to each other. From each piece we build together several outfits.

Maioptics is important in our profession: through our questions, we create a form of introspection.

We help to cast a fresh, sharpened look on themselves, their body and on their style. Aider à poser un regard nouveau, prendre du recul sur son corps. Maioptics is important in our profession: through our questions, we create a form of introspection.

So how can we get dressed quickly with the famous "great outfit of the day" every morning ?!

You need to take time upstream to work on it ! There are no secrets because you have nothing for nothing.

  1. Compose and identify the looks that you like: you take a picture of yourself when you like an outfit and you start your journal of looks. You need easy outfits, and everyone has their own definition of what is easy
  2. Comfort is important in everyday life: to know perfectly its morphology and to know the clothes in which you are really well ... a good outfit is one of which one does not think anymore once the door of home is crossed!
  3. Everyday highlight at least one part of your body that you like: the wrist, the waist, the cleavage, ankle, the neck! It's up to you to know what you like to show off !
  4. Have beautiful timeless basics in beautiful materials: wool, beautiful poplin

And last but not least, in moments when you can let go, reconnect with your creativity, take a step back, and most importantly, look at yourself!

What do you think of MyVestiaire ?

ANNE-MARIE

-

The great question I ask myself is: how to replace the human relationship and the discussion with an image consultant? A digital tool, a site, an application have something cold ... as I said earlier, the maieutics is important in our profession: by our questions, we create a form of introspection. By allowing this, MyVestiaire is more of a personal development tool than a digital stylist.

"MyVestiaire is more of a personal development tool than a digital stylist"

Many people would like to benefit from the services of a style coach but few decide to do so, for reasons of cost certainly, but also for reasons of intimacy. Clients must accept to engage with someone they do not know well. So why not be guided by digital tools and engage in this conversation with yourself, being accompanied, as MyVestiaire proposes. I see it as a complementary service to that of the style coaches but it can not replace this relationship ;-).

That said, if MyVestiaire can help to get to know yourself better, accept yourself better, wear your clothes better and buy better, it's great for everyone!

A few words on AML Bazaar and AML Paris ?

ANNE-MARIE

With my story, my passion for colors and beautiful materials, I wanted to design a line of dresses to decline in several different prints. Those of the last collection are in organic bamboo: the material is so soft, so fresh and so light that one feels the caress of the silk on the skin. The variety of colors and prints is such that depending on their complexion and the color of their hair, each can find the dress that will put them together beautifully. Finally these dresses are designed in Jaipur, India, in a workshop where the vibes are so positive that I think they participate to the history of my dresses! This collection is a dream come true for me and I am very proud of it.

Style coaches know the fabrics, the brands; they like to make clothes last and they have secret addresses! Can you share any?

ANNE-MARIE

-

I want to promote a more responsible and circular approach in fashion, but I am against a form of guilt to buy with big brands called "fast fashion". You must first wear the clothes you buy! And so much the better if you do not pay too much.

There are nuggets that you will wear for a long time at H&M for example: but you have to choose in the labels Conscious, TREND or PREMIUM. Go see Arket too ... but keep this address for you !! Finally there is AML Paris of course and that you can share!
