Sturdee Energy achieves financial close for the Dwaalboom and Slurry Solar Projects for PPC Cement

The gears are in motion as we reach the financial close of two 10MW solar parks with PPC Cement. This achievement paves the way for construction to commence, solidifying our role as leaders in sustainable energy innovation across South Africa.

A partnership for progress

Teaming up with PPC Cement is a significant step towards meeting climate goals while advancing sustainable energy initiatives. Cement production is notorious for its carbon footprint, and by integrating renewable energy, we’re moving towards a greener future. This collaboration emphasises our shared vision of reducing environmental impact and creating a sustainable industrial landscape.

Project highlights

?? Tender success: We proudly secured the tender floated by PPC Cement, marking a significant milestone in our growth.

?? Power purchase agreements: We have established two 20-year power purchase agreements for the Dwaalboom Solar Plant in Limpopo and Slurry Solar Plant in the North West.

?? Advanced technology: The solar parks will feature ground-mounted, embedded grid-tied solar single-axis trackers equipped with bifacial solar panels. This innovative technology not only enhances energy yields but also reduces land footprint by harnessing diffuse irradiation.

?? Tailored renewable solutions: Our innovative approach to site selection involved comprehensive dust fallout analysis, ensuring that the prevailing wind directions are accounted for. This meticulous planning allows us to minimise dust fallout from PPC's cement operations, safeguarding the integrity of our solar installations.
