Stupid Things

Stupid Things

I'm guilty of it. I'm guilty AF. We all are. But here is the thing. Everyone else is too. What am I talking about? Stupid things. We all say them. We all do them. But there is a difference.

As I have gotten older, I have cultivated the art of practicing the pause. But make no mistake about it, it still does happen. But with age, it happens less and less the older I get. But, I am in no means exempt. And I suppose it will happen the remainder of my life, just hopefully I am aware. But here is the point I would like to put on the table. Stop crucifying everyone over every little thing.

None of us are perfect. And we have grown into a society of blame, guilt and shame. Stop it. Let's get into the habit of saying I'm sorry and I forgive you. You know that fall from grace? I bet if you think long enough, there is a line of people who have forgiven you. Let's get back into the habit.

I am lucky. I am in my mid 50's. Social media wasn't around when I was growing up. Therefore, all of those stupid things I said and did, were not on the web for the whole world to see. I mean except for a few years in my late teens and early 20's, I have been a rock solid human being. But, there are still plenty of things that I have said and done that could have be frowned upon. Luckily for me, I have surrounded myself with people who do not keep score, and are forgiving. And just how did I do that? I in turn, do not keep score and I forgive. So here's the deal. Here is the break down...

If someone repeatedly say's stupid things after you have asked them not to, you may want to rethink your involvement with them. If someone constantly brings up your past bullshit, it may be time to cut bait and let them drift out to sea. If someone has revealed the true content of their character, and it is dark as the night is long, you definitely will want to head in the other direction. Other than the above stated, cut someone some slack.

Stupid things are inevitable. Forgiveness is eternal.
