Today's devotional is from A Daily Taste of Proverbs

"Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil" - 15:6.

It has never been easier to accumulate more stuff and to obtain wealth in wealthy countries. The pursuit of wealth and power can become a driving force, requiring hours of work at the expense of other aspects of life. Today's verse advocates a simple lifestyle as opposed to one with a lot of things and the stress that can go with them. Even Jesus warned against this motivation and asked His listeners 2,000 years ago what good it does to have a lot of stuff only to lose one's soul in the process.

Have you bought into the modern mindset that more is better? What price are you paying to get and keep the goods and money you want or have? Do you own your stuff or does your stuff own you? You can read Jesus' words on this issue in Mark 8:35-38 .
