By 2020, 50 billion devices will be connected to the internet. The future will see the inter-connectivity of everything from urban structures to medical devices to household appliances. The Internet of Things (I0T) refers to the growing network of these sensors and Internet-connected devices around us. Globally, IoT is a rapidly emerging field and attracts billions of dollars in investment by all the major technology and IT companies. 

James Cook University is launching a brand new Engineering degree on Electronic Systems and Internet of Things in Cairns campus from 2016. This Bachelor of Engineering program will be the first of its kind in Australia and one of the very few available in the world. BEng in Electronic Systems and IoT will combine the study of electronic engineering with internet technologies, wireless communications, sensor devices, industrial design and cloud computing. More importantly, our program will include a strong focus on developing entrepreneurship and commercial skills, because it is the startup companies of today that will be the household names of tomorrow.
