STUDY ALONE OR IN A GROUP?

STUDY ALONE OR IN A GROUP?

One of the common questions that students can ask themselves is whether it's better to study alone or in a group? Being a student several options can be available to help you learn more efficiently. Some may be more comfortable learning at a university’s desk in a group setting, others might choose to study on their own for a big exam.  Is one way more methodical than the other?

The benefits of studying alone

Minimal distractions

Some people prefer to study on their own it helps them focus better without distractions as opposed to studying in a group. Furthermore, you are free to choose where to study. When there is no one around you, you have full control over what you study.

Suitable rhythm

Studying alone gives you more flexibility on which lessons to study. Whether it’s going through materials during a lunch break or taking a private class with a teacher, it’s up to you. Fitting your lessons according to your schedule. If you prefer to dig through some more topics that you don’t understand, you have the time and possibility to do it.

 Choosing according to personal preferences

Everyone is different, which means everyone has its own preferences and learns differently. There may be some topics that will pick your interests, that you would like to dedicate more time to. You are free to do so while studying on your own, which will be less likely to come across in a group setting. For instance, if reading out loud helps you register information more quickly, you won’t have to bother anyone while doing so!

The benefits of studying in a group

Motivation to work harder

Studying with other people gives you a motivation boost. The competitive spirit unknowingly motivates you to study harder and to keep up with the group. Sometimes it can be difficult to study something on your own. When you set the date and time for a group class, it prevents you from procrastinating.

Expanded access to information

You can retain much more information by studying in a group. You have the opportunity to exchange your ideas with your group partners, which allows you to go over interesting or complicated topics. Your perception of a particular situation differs from your study buddies.  An opportunity to discuss gives you a better understanding of the topic.

More practice

Studying in a group also allows you to put your knowledge into practice. If you are learning a new language, drafting dialogues with your group partners as well as conversations on different topics will make you progress faster.

After looking at the benefits of studying alone or studying in a group, it can be difficult to tell which of them is more effective. They are both working. You can choose the one that suits you the most or to find a balance between the two of them.

Are you a team group worker or do you prefer to study alone?
