Students Hold Coat Drive for Community Closet
When Wittenberg- Birnamwood High School student Kaydence Wanta reached out this past October asking to do a coat drive for our Community Closet, we said yes of course.
But we had no idea just how many coats her and her friend Lexis would collect!
Both are members of the National Honor Society and chose our closet as the recipient of their creative service project. The coat drive lasted for three weeks, and they had collection boxes at various locations including their school and the Wausau and Weston YMCA, among others.
This past Monday, both students dropped off what they collected. Closet volunteers looked in awe as the students opened their trunk and began hauling in more than 20 large bags and three huge boxes overflowing with coats for all ages.
“We definitely didn’t think we would get this much…it’s amazing!” Kaydence said.
