Megan Veldhuis is a 5th year Electrical Engineering student at the University of Alberta. She joined Breathe BioMedical as an Electrical Engineering intern in May.??
When she is not working, you can find Megan rock-climbing, photographing concerts, and playing ringette, which she has been doing for the last 13 years. Megan also prides herself in working on numerous personal electrical projects.?
When looking into internship opportunities, Breathe BioMedical peaked Megan’s interest for numerous reasons. “I was always interested in the biomedical engineering field and saw BBM as a chance to get my foot in the door”, she shared.???
Over the course of the summer term, Megan was a part of many projects. One of her most proud achievements being her work on the 120V PID Control Box, “The project just kept growing. At first, I just had a PID controller, RTD, and heating tape set up to set and maintain the temperature. After continuously adding new features, I’m now able to send commands through LabVIEW to adjust the temperature and check the pressure of a pressure transducer, and so much more” She has also worked on databases to create a dashboard to track kit receiving. For this, she coded in SQL, HTML, and Python, which Megan learned in two weeks on the job.??
