Student engagement at the 5th Corfu Symposium on Managing & Marketing Places

Professor Desmond Wee of Karlshochschule International University in Germany attended the 5th Corfu Symposium on Managing & Marketing Places with his undergraduate students as part of their Critical Tourism module. Although since its inception the Symposium has received delegates studying at Masters and Doctoral level, this is the first time the Symposium has hosted undergraduate students.

However, these students did not just sit back and watch the proceedings. One student, Johanna Teubert, gave a very confident presentation of her research paper, co-authored with Professor Wee on “Re-placing Topias: Chinese tourists in Austria, Hallstatt”.

Every single student engaged thoroughly with the academics and practitioners in attendance and interviewed many of our other international delegates on a topic of their choice they had found to be of interest during the Symposium to inform the papers they had to then write for their coursework.

Professor Wee will shortly be taking up his new position as Professorship for Tourism at Cologne Business School.
