I know the past weeks have been rough especially if you are in my part of the world (Nigeria).
How are you doing?
Amid Nigeria's crunches, I want to believe you are able to pull through and prepare for opportunities both within the country and globally.
My last two letters have been on application tips for the Student Energy Career Training program.
In case you missed these, please check my last two newsletters to have a better understanding of the remaining part of this letter.
Just a brief overview
The Student Energy Career Training program aims at equipping young people with the required knowledge and skills to kickstart a career in the energy sector.
The curriculum was planned such that participants are exposed to energy-based training,?real-time projects, career development programs, and mentorship.?
The application has three short essay prompts and I am going to explain how I answered each of them.?
In my previous letter to you, I provided tips on answering the first prompt of the SECT application.
Today, we'll consider the next prompt.
Why do you want to participate in the career training program?
(I have over time emphasised that the application requires answers to the questions provided - make sure you are answering the question.)

In my response to this prompt, I talked about how I wanted to be part of solving energy poverty in my country. I shared the challenge of irregular power supply in Nigeria (avg. of 6 hours daily). I then mentioned how I intend to solve the problem with the skills that would be garnered from the Student Energy Career Training programme.
To solidify the point, I talked about my past experiences in the energy space and how I have made an effort to build capacity through volunteer programmes and enrollment in relevant courses on energy and climate change.
I talked about how the experience would broaden my understanding so I can have the requisite knowledge needed to kickstart a career in the energy sector.?
I also touched on how the experience will equip me to join the world's fight against climate change - The Paris agreement.
“I want to understand the current global energy system, energy economics, and politics as well as where we are towards achieving net-zero emission of the Paris agreement.”
The above points formed my response to the second prompt which is part of the questions that got me into SECT.
I hope this was helpful ?
In my next newsletter, I will touch on the tips to answering the third prompt. Please stay in touch.
Till I write to you again
