In yesterday’s article, I described a couple of lessons learned from a recent podcast interview.
After posting that article, I realized that today marks the two-month anniversary of my current marketing initiative—my first ever “Podcast tour”.
If you are not familiar with the term, “Podcast tour”, think online speaking tour.? Instead of physically traveling from place to place to be interviewed, the conversations take place online in podcasts.
My Podcast Tour
The purpose of this tour is to promote my new book How To Succeed In Your Professional Service Business.
In preparation for this tour, my research led me to two excellent resources.
The first one Hell Yes Guest is an 8-day program to help wannabe Podcast guests, identify potential podcast appearances and prepare pitches to appear on these podcasts.?
This program included a reference to PodMatch , an online platform which matches guests with potential podcasts. ?Having been on PodMatch for only one month, the results are truly amazing.
As of today, as a guest my global rank on PodMatch is #125, which is in the top 3.4% of guests.? Of the 24 podcast interviews that have been scheduled, I have completed six.? And on each of these six, I received a 5-star rating from the host.
As gratifying as these numerical results have been, the personal benefits are right off the chart.

Out Of The Echo Chamber
If you have ever spent a huge amount of time working on a project that you and you alone can do, such as writing a book, you understand how isolating the experience can be.?
My first six podcast interviews have done more than end my self-imposed writer isolation.? With one exception, chatting with the hosts was like reconnecting with long lost friends.? In each case, the host was genuinely interested in me as a person and what I had to say.
What a joy to be personally validated by complete strangers after my extended stint in my lonely echo chamber.
And even better, in each of these six interviews, I learned more about the topics on which I was considered the guest expert. Gotta love it when that happens.
Thanks to two excellent resources and some amazing podcast hosts, my self-confidence is now higher that it has been in a very long time.
But that’s not the point of this article.?
It seems to me, that for whatever reason, many of us allow ourselves to default to our own version of my self-imposed writer isolation.? It happens.
But guess what—it’s not a permanent state of being.
A podcast tour helped me escape from my lonely echo chamber.
What can help get you back to the person you are…and who you want to be?
