Stuck In A Rut? Here Is A Powerful Self-Hypnosis Strategy To Redefine Your Situation

Are you stuck in a situation in which you find yourself blocked in some way? It hangs up in time, persists as unresolved threat to your success or performance, affects your self-esteem.

Sounds familiar? How do you get out of this hamster wheel?

In order to rid yourself of that problem, you need to figure out the situation and find some ways to change it.

Perhaps you've already been trying to change it, unsuccessfully, that's why it's a real headache now. So whats next?

Some people confuse overthinking with problem solving. Thinking about the problem obsessively will only make you an expert in the problem however it wont help you resolve it whatsoever.

First thing you can do, however, is to change your act. If a situation still remains unsolved despite your efforts to change it, stop trying to change it the way you do (as it clearly doesn't work) and do something else.

Sometimes you can figure out a way to directly tackle the problem and this will do the trick.

However, more often than not, you have to be sneakier than that.

Your first step should always be to zoom out and take a clear look at the situation form a different angle and do a more focused examination.

This solution-focus self-hypnosis strategy will help you to attain better self- management, relieve stress and tension, and lastly programme yourself for long-term success.

7 Powerful Question to Redefine Your Situation:

  1. What's bugging me?
  2. What's actually going on here? (The story, the action. Not how you feel about it, but what 'it' is. Consider all viewpoints, not just your own).
  3. What objective realities am I dealing with? (Physical, social, or business / organisational constraints).
  4. What part does other people's behaviour play?
  5. What part do I play? (What are you doing or not doing, how you are reacting to contribute to cause or perpetuate the situation.)
  6. What do I get out of 'it'? (Short term or secondary gains, payoffs, satisfactions, or other benefits you get from doing what you do and allowing the situation to persist.) That's my favourite question as it's a real eye-opener.
  7. What can I do about it? (Feel free to brainstorm, listing everything you can think of, no matter how implausible or silly; then write up an action plan with specific and measurable steps.)

Once you write your action plan, act in out in your head for a moment. Close your eyes, take 5 deep breathes and imagine you are successfully dealing with this challenge over and over again. Feel what you feel, see what you see, hear what you hear. Fully embrace this imaginary experience and tell yourself this is your new reality.

By using this technique of as-if imagining ways to resolve your situation, you are triggering your normal learning processes, but you are allowing yourself to learn from imaginary rather than objective experience.

You build an imaginary scenario illustrating a desires or changed reality or outcomes to a specific situation, you allow yourself to experience this in make-believe, and you'll soon find yourself spontaneously tending to act as if it already were as you've defined it to be.

The make-believe always come first, the reality follows.

In a nutshell, this strategy is about defining or redefining your situation / problem / challenge in order to bring about the changes that will help resolve whatever it is a problem for you.

Always remember, that a real, meaningful change will only happen when you start using your thinking and imagining that you can achieve what ever you set your mind to, truly believing in your own abilities. The stories you tell yourself in your head define the reality you are in today.

Negative self-talk = stuck in the same hamster wheel.

Helpful, positive self-talk = solution focused thinking and actions.
