??The stubbornness has to stop

“We interviewed them, and we like them – but we don't think they are worth what they are asking for” - sound familiar?

Apologies in advance, this might sound like a rant, but it’s a conversation that I, and my team, are having time and time again.

Markets change – this sounds like something Captain Obvious might say, but COVID and the following recession has multiple long-lasting impacts on the food manufacturing market, as well as domestic market.

It also has caused candidates to reevaluate their skill set and the value they bring to business – not to mention the fact that wages need to increase to accommodate the 15-20% uplift in general living expenses.

Those in HR and hiring positions might not have had to look for a new job in the past 5 years, but it would be amiss of them to ignore the fact that seismic shifts have taken place.

You might not have had to pay what is being required now – but guess what – you need to pay that now.

Don’t package it up with a joining bonus and a drop in the salary you offer.

If you are hiring for a role and you find someone that ticks most of your requirements (because 10/10’s don’t exist!) why should they move to you for the same salary they are on now?

This is a candidate market, embrace it.

Until next time,

Lukas.
