Struggling to find motivation or knowing what to prioritise at work?

We’ve all had those days and I wanted to share a bit of my usual mind framework to try and overcome this, even though it always depends a lot on the environment too, these are things you could be doing!?

I am proof that it usually works from many different product management and technology setups to MBA different challenges - at least on what you can control!?

  1. Do you know the bigger picture objectives or #OKRs of your organisation and how your job contributes to that? If yes and they make sense, always check if what you’re doing is aligned with that and know how to measure that. If not, question your leaders and understand what are their expectations from you, and then always check again if you’re focusing on the right inputs.?
  2. Are you doing things that could increase revenues, cut costs or create general improvements on your routine or your teams’? If not, could you??
  3. Are you creating time to review things and correct bugs or inconsistencies and reflect on mistakes and lessons learned and feedback received (retrospective style)??
  4. What are your personal goals with your job besides that? Do you aim for a promotion? Or to create connections? Or to change areas? Whatever that goal is, make sure you also make time to prioritise that.?

If you spend some - or worse most - of your time on things besides these or that you can’t connect to this, you should 100% reassess and understand if that’s where your lack of motivation comes from! Most times it’s about aligning all of these and of course surrounding yourself with the best people and corporate culture you can!?

If you can’t control it, dare to do something different and consider what you should change on your routine to make sure your time and - even more important if you’re a leader - your teams’ is being well spent!?

And one last but very important thing: iterate this constantly!!! Especially if you’re in a fast paced environment, what worked yesterday might not work today and the faster you question the assumptions and re-assess these, the faster you and your teams will be delivering meaningful and fulfilling results.?

And of course, try and choose a place where you can have fun and enjoy yourself with whoever you’re doing it with!!?
