Struggling to edit or write your CV? Let me help you???
Is it just me that finds the thought of updating my CV daunting? Where do you even start?
I often get asked by my candidates to help them out, I have edited and written a few CV’s in my time so I like to think I know a thing or two. I have put together a few little tips that might help anyone struggling to write or update their CV. I know how hard it can be to get started:
?? Personal summaries, to do or not to do…unless you’re going to use this space to summarise your experience, skills and, achievements don’t include one. We already know you are looking for a new role, that’s how we got your CV in the first place. Use this as an opportunity to introduce yourself and highlight all the great things about you and your experience.
?? Responsibilities, keep them relevant and stay away from the generics, everyone is a team player with great communication skills that can work under pressure. Talk about what projects you have worked on, have many of them did you lead from start to end, what languages and scripting tools have you used, whether have you managed a team or helped juniors, have you designed a new model that has improved the company’s performance? What problems did you solve and how did it benefit the business /client /team? What have you achieved, and what are you most proud of?
?? In the nicest way possible being punctual is not a skill…shocking I know. Hands-on experience using Python, or Azure is a skill, deploying a model is a skill, and creating a dashboard is definitely a skill. What are your strengths? This is your time to show off and ?shine?

??? Is your CV a PDF? I would recommend having a Word version too, there is a chance we might need to tweak it and make small cosmetic changes that relate more to the spec /skills needed.?It’s always a good idea to have two maybe even three versions of your CV depending on the types of roles you’re after!
?? Lastly! If you’re going to include a cover letter double, even triple check you change the company name /job title you’re applying for. I completely appreciate looking for a new job is a full-time job itself, but I promise the small details do matter.
?? Remember, your CV is there to get you an INTERVIEW, not the JOB. Your CV represents your experience before the client has a chance to meet you in all your glory! Make it relevant to the role you’re applying for.
Always happy to answer any additional questions!
