Stronger Together: Celebrating the Open-Source Commerce Community

I recently posted a poll on the platform formerly known as Twitter about a joint event with Shopware and the Magento Community.

83% are at least interested. So, let's explore some of the upsides.

The Open-Source Spirit

The open-source community is built on a foundation of collaboration and innovation. Though?Magneto and?Shopware?represent different ecommerce platforms, at our core, we share a commitment to advancing open-source commerce. A joint virtual event between our communities represents a unique opportunity to recognize that common spirit and work together toward elevating the entire open-source e-commerce ecosystem.

Recognizing Complementary Strengths

The open-source foundation of?Magneto?and?Shopware?enables merchants, developers, and partners to directly innovate on top of the core platforms. Both provide code customization capabilities to tailor unique ecommerce experiences, integrate with other systems, and expand functionality for specific business needs.

The?Magneto?community offers an unparalleled wealth of developer experience from powering some of the world’s most trafficked online stores. The platform provides a proven, scalable foundation primed for taking customization to the next level.

The?Shopware?community brings together users of diverse backgrounds in a collaborative environment focused on ease-of-use and rapid implementation. The platform allows those lacking deep technical expertise to still realize ambitious ecommerce visions.

By coming together, both communities offer opportunities to cross-pollinate knowledge, ideas, and code contributions across platforms. Joint collaboration allows us to recognize our shared commitment to open innovation that puts merchants first, rather than any single platform.

Growing the Open-Source Ecommerce Ecosystem

Ultimately, this joint event signifies a shared recognition that the advancement of open-source ecommerce should take priority over individual platform competition. Collaboration that crosses community lines will increase overall awareness and adoption of open-source commerce alternatives. A thriving ecosystem lifts all boats.

Users Over Platforms, Community Over Code

As?developers,?merchants, and?enthusiasts, what connects us runs far deeper than any single platform. We are united by a passion for community-driven innovation that provides user choice and flexible solutions not locked behind proprietary systems.?Our identities come from community first and code second.?An event that recognizes this while allowing us to learn from each other reminds us of our shared voyage to drive the future of digital commerce.

That sounds pretty aligned with the work Kuba, Ignacio, and others are doing with Meet Commerce -- platform agnostic ecommerce conferences and gatherings. ?? I think they have plans for one in the US next year.
