a strong desire to know or learn something
The most important human trait to move forward and upward is curiosity.
An eager desire to know or learn about something
While discipline and motivation may push you forward, curiosity pulls you forward.
I sometimes ask my team, "If you could spend a few hours doing anything you wanted related to the business, what would you do?" We all can probably easily think of what we don't want to do! Sometimes, especially toward the end of the week, I look at my to do list, and just might not feel like doing any of it. Asking this question, and then spending a few hours doing something I truly want to do, can lead to some of my best work. Might also be why we've designated Fridays as "Deep Work" day.
So why do I think curiosity is so important in the journey from CSA to RIA Operator?
Because when you're doing work you're truly interested in, you do your best work. And the more time you spend doing your best work, the faster transformation will happen.
Success is something you attract by the person you become. ~Jim Rohn
This is the best time in history to be curious. Knowledge is super accessible.
If you're not interested in learning more about this industry, following the Finfluencers, demoing advisortech... if you get in your car at the end of the day and don't desire to turn on a podcast or listen to an audiobook, I would recommend finding a job/industry that you are curious about.
The power of doing work that you are passionate about is demonstrated in the hedgehog concept by Jim Collins.
As an RIA Operator, these are some things you might be passionate about:
So what are some practical ways to be curious as a CSA?

Ask to shadow other team members
"In my experience, the best way for CSAs to really expand their knowledge base is to sit/shadow other members of the firm doing their tasks! If I have a member of my team that shows interest in the sales side, I will make sure to schedule time during their day to sit in a client meeting with an advisor to learn more about the process. If they show more interest in the planning/trading side, I will have them sit with our investment committee as they discuss our portfolio's and philosophy. Sometimes it is on the CSA to ask to do those things but any organization focused on growth should jump at that opportunity to grow from within." ~ Andrew Burgess, Operations Manager

Read books
We happen to be giving away 10 of these books today! https://www.simplicityoperations.com/giveaway
Watch YouTube
I watched quite a few hours of these folks during Covid.
So to sum up, I think becoming an RIA Operator requires that you have curiosity about what it takes to become an RIA Operator.
Woah, that's kinda circular. If that's you, you're in the right place because that's exactly what this newsletter is about.

1 年The growth acceleration is real. In the past few months, I've totally thrown myself into what I'm post passionate about, and I feel like I've learned 2x as much as I would have in the same timeframe had I continued to operate in a role that I liked, not loved. Do what you love, chase it, and don't lose sight.
