???? Strong Body, Strong Mind: How Resistance Training Built My Resilience ????
When I think about resilience, I don’t just picture someone calmly weathering life’s storms. I think about strength, real, physical strength that fuels mental toughness. That’s what resistance training, HIIT, and even my attempts at gymnastics have done for me. Building a strong body doesn’t just leave you with visible muscles; it leaves you with a mind ready to tackle whatever life throws at you.
I didn’t start lifting heavy weights until I was 38, right in the middle of one of the hardest times of my life , my messy divorce. Anxiety would wake me up at 3 a.m. sharp, but instead of tossing and turning, I made a choice. I willingly got up at 4 a.m. and was at the gym by 5 a.m., lifting weights and training before my kids even woke up. Sounds exhausting, right? But, oddly enough, it wasn’t. It was my lifeline.
Those early morning sessions didn’t drain me,? they powered me through the day. The physical strength I was building with every lift started transforming into mental strength. I was no longer a victim of my anxiety! I was stronger, both in body and in mind. Training didn’t add stress; it became the very thing that helped me cope and eventually conquer the anxiety that used to wake me up in the dead of night.
