Awareness of the prevalence of human trafficking in our country and worldwide is increasing. Movements like National Human Trafficking Prevention Month in January each year have brought attention to the plight of victims. The awareness movement has even given us tips to know what to look for to prevent an abduction or the signs of someone who has been trafficked. Awareness is something we can all do to help make a difference.
But awareness is just the beginning. You might wonder how these victims, or survivors as we call them, are getting the help they need.
One way is through Orange County Rescue Mission's Strong Beginnings program, which provides emergency shelter for survivors escaping from their traffickers. With our network of services, any woman over 18 can get help to escape and find the safety and stability she needs to start the healing process. Once in our care, our trauma-informed counselors and case manager come alongside the survivors and help them to take the next step to a residential program that provides specialized services and support for trafficking survivors.
Providing a woman a way out and a safe place to flee to is the first and critical step for a woman to escape, heal and have a restored life. To learn more about our Strong Beginnings program and donate to support the cause, go to rescuemission.org/trafficking-help/ .
Such an essential cause. Let's continue to spread awareness and work towards ending human trafficking together.
