Strolling Into a World of Upcycling

Strolling Into a World of Upcycling

Our posterity will reap the benefits of today’s green innovation. Thinking preemptively about the sustainability of our resources, companies are beginning to adopt a long-term outlook on their products and mission.

I’d recently stumbled across a company whose products are positively designed around the well-being of our children. What better way to capture the essence of raising our children to live resourcefully than a model designed around closing the product’s loop. Joolz—an upbeat creative company that specializes in modular baby equipment such as strollers, car seats and other accessories—is pioneering the way companies maximize the value of their resources. They believe in celebrating the little things in life including your little ones and other first happy moments. However, with those moments also bring challenges for new parents, and that’s where Joolz is meeting their demand.

The company has been recognized for its innovative end-of-life use for cardboard. Large and hefty equipment like baby strollers require more packaging equating to more cardboard. However, Joolz has made strides beyond the business sustainability community in its design of reusable packaging. “It’s a shame to throw away all that cardboard,” says the company’s creative director. That’s where the idea started. Since then, the company has encourages consumers to convert cardboard boxes of all sizes into fun DIY projects such as bird houses, reindeer and lamps! In addition to operating more sustainably, the company has become an example for all product models for those who consume cardboard. “The simplicity of using an existing resource in a new way which will remain long after the purchase, is a smart move in many ways. It incurs no minimal cost to the company to modify their boxes, using existing technology.” Ultimately it reinforces the brands uniqueness and singularity.

Joolz has also fostered an initiative “Birth Forest” where they plant a tree in acknowledgment of new toddlers. When you register your child at joolz.com, they plant a tree named after your child. As your child grows, so does the tree. Joolz is painting a colorful future with their optimistic and encouraging words for making a difference. It's companies like this that I intend on continuing to seek-out in hopes of inspiring my audience to be more innovative and sustainable in their business practices.

Onward,

Jonah
