A boss creates fear, a leader confidence". A boss fixes blame, a leader corrects mistakes. A boss knows all, a leader asks questions. A boss makes work drudgery, a leader makes it interesting".
Russell H. Ewing, British Journalist
In today's fast-paced era with evolutions, advancements in all fields of life more and more people are looking for leaders. Those charismatic people, who are driven by a specific vision of obsolete and positive world's transformation. Some clearly describe them as pillars of the society, who devote themselves to greater good. Their actions are mainly focused on progress over ego. Furthermore, they tend to invest in others, inspire them to emotionally align with and play an important role of carrying out that vision.
On the other hand, bosses demand loyalty and obedience. They form teams with the objectives to work others for them, use their skills for their own personal success. They care more about hierarchy and concentrate less on team results. A boss views his/her team members as line item expenses which must be minimised. Moreover, is opposed to an open dialogue with team members, uses offensive tactics, has a strict body language and by using his authority "condemns" others. People of this kind strive to give the impression of fearless individuals. Τhey do not afford the luxury of making solid business relations, they monitor each step that their members do, even what is said or written for them.
Below you will see an infographic displaying the differences between a boss and a leader:
Food for thought: To become a boss can happen once in your lifetime. To become a leader is something that you are born with. What you will choose to be, depends clearly on you!

9 年Instead of focusing on the task first, if I focus on each individual team member by highlighting their strengths and guiding areas they need to improve that’s when I feel I function as a leader and not a boss. If I can perform with leader qualities I get more out of my team. They do more work, they work better, have more ideas and they bring enthusiasm!
