Strike a pose, there's nothing to it! Rogue Code!

There was no newsletter last week as it was birthday fun time for me and my eldest, but the title of this weeks newsletter was what I would have used had I written one. IMHO it's too good not to use, even if the news is so last week. ??

Things do seem to be back to normal, but it does serve as a reminder that the Internet and all it's complex infrastructure is actually very fragile.

It's also an opportunity to dig out my Olympic torch photo from London 2012. I look so awkward, probably because I felt like an imposter. Which I 100% was, so I've added odd looking neon cats to distract you. Striking a pose with the Olympic torch is hard, Madonna I am not.

Best of luck to all the athletes at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. I also hope the weather improves for you.

So what has happened recently in the tech world?

Notion Calendar finally has an Android app. I'm already a fan, but I plan to use it more now that I can access it on my phone.

Google did an about turn on third party cookies in Chrome. One less thing to worry about as a marketer (for now), but as a user I'm going to be trying The Browser Company Arc browser again.

Amazon Prime Day(s) happened again. I did grab a couple of bargains.

The Logitech MX Master 2S mouse. Apart from micro USB charging, though, you can still use it whilst charging (looking at you Apple ??), it's a power house of a mouse and I already don't know how I managed without it. Being able to connect to 3 devices and also copy and paste between devices is very cool. Not all mice are equal.

My professional setup means I have a phone, a laptop and desktop in the office for more heavy lifting style work like video editing etc. Multi-point headphones normally only connect to 2 devices at once. However, the Technics AZ60M2 TWS connects to 3 devices at once. No more faffing and also being Technics, they sound amazing. I went for the silver because they were cheaper, but it does have that record deck look, which is pretty cool.

SearchGPT has launched, the ChatGPT powered search engine which is a rival to Google and Perplexity, but also Bing.

I thought I put it through it's paces this morning until I realised that there is a GPT made by someone else with the same name. Still it gives a glimpse of what is to come and there's no waiting list to join.

When asking it what tech news happened last week, it told me about things from CES 2024, which was 7ish months ago now.

However, when asking if Liverpool won. It nailed it.

Well, apart from when Szoboszlai scored, which was actually the 34th minute. It's good that it includes the sources clearly, something the real SearchGPT will do but hopefully the accuracy is better. Whether users will even bother to click through to the sources is something else entirely.

Let's see what the official SearchGPT is like to use.

Finally, Intel has launched AI Playground for it's GPU's. A local based AI that can do images, enhancements and answers. It's pretty cool for what it is and I've already used it to enhance the resolution a logo for a friend. The images are a bit AI 9 months ago, but still fun to do it locally. Interested? Watch Bob! ??

Anyway, the sun is out and that doesn't happen very often, so I'm off to enjoy it.

Have a great weekend, take care and see you in the next one.

This sounds like a fun mix! Curious to see how those tech buys and cats tie into the news. What’s the highlight for you?
