Stretching Before Your Golf Round

Stretching Before Your Golf Round

Either you're laughing at that title or you're all in! I have some friends who are the trunk slammers and can literally come from the parking lot to the first tee and stripe it down the middle.

I also have those friends who are trunk slammers and THINK they can stripe it down the middle, BUT...

it takes them at least 3-9 holes before they can even really hit the ball. And their score shows it.

Then I have my friends (myself included), who have to actually go hit balls prior to playing. It's not pretty if I don't hit at least a few!

I'd love to know in the comments, what type of golfer are you?

  1. Trunk slammer and I stripe one down the middle every time.
  2. Trunk slammer and I really could use a warm-up but I'm late.
  3. Must warm-up prior to playing!

Golf is a sport that requires flexibility, strength, and coordination. Our swing relies heavily on our body's ability to move fluidly and powerfully through a wide range of motion. Without adequate preparation, the muscles and joints are at risk of stiffness and injury, which can severely impact performance and enjoyment on the course.

There are reasons why we should stretch before our round (and warm-up):

  1. Injury Prevention: By gradually increasing the flexibility and elasticity of muscles and tendons, stretching reduces the risk of strains and sprains. The rotational nature of a golf swing puts significant stress on the back, shoulders, and hips, making these areas particularly susceptible to injury.
  2. Improved Performance: Flexible muscles are capable of a greater range of motion and can generate more power. A well-stretched golfer can achieve a fuller backswing and a more complete follow-through, leading to increased drive distance and accuracy.
  3. Enhanced Focus and Mental Preparation: The act of stretching allows golfers to mentally transition from the outside world to the game ahead. It provides an opportunity to visualize shots, set intentions for the round, and enter a state of calm and focused readiness.

With the above 3 key points, you will have a much better chance of making better scores on your starting holes. You're not trying to "get warmed up" and wishing you're playing better.
