Stress Reduction in Uncertain Times: Find Calm, Joy, and Balance
Tammy Goen
I'm the secret weapon for those seeking to move beyond overwhelm to a place of sustainable self care, life-work balance and peace??
With everything happening in the world, prioritizing stress reduction has never been more important.?
I don’t know anyone personally who isn’t finding it challenging to see potential positives in our future.
Last time I spoke of using the “what if” game to our advantage. It can certainly help to shift our fear and worry toward good potentials, but it’s not necessarily easy.
I don’t think there’s been a better time to focus on being grounded, to meditate or practice mindful exercises. We need, more than ever, things that will calm and center us and keep our minds from whirling out of control.
It’s also important to seek out joy. We need to bring into our lives more of the things that inspire us, feed us, remind us of our humanity. Incorporating joy into daily life is a powerful stress reduction strategy. Activities that bring you into the flow—things like dancing, painting, or simply laughing—help shift your nervous system from stress mode to relaxation.
I know this can seem selfish to some, or come across perhaps as putting our heads in the sand. Not so. We just need time away from worries and to allow our bodies to return to the rest/digest mode so we can keep ourselves healthy and continue to be the important elements we are of our families and communities.
Taking care of yourself allows you to stay resilient and grounded no matter what’s happening in the world around you. Ultimately, this is the best way possible to make a positive impact, to ‘be the change’.
I want to share some resources that I find particularly helpful right now, for calming and feeling joyful.
Remind yourself of what is good, what is working, the good that people are doing, by hearing just good news: The Good News Network?
Get your funny video, puppy love fix by hearing happy stories about dogs with We Rate Dogs.?
While I’m definitely a dog person, I love all animals and definitely want to share with my followers who are cat people! You can find great feline stories at We Love Cats and Kittens.?
Are you familiar with Tom Kenyon? He creates amazing audio recordings using just his voice, in many remarkable ways. It may be too woo-woo for some (the songs are channeled), but if you’re looking for a non-guided meditation soundtrack, you can check out one of his amazing audios. I’m listening to the Cave of Altruin every day right now.
For your next uplifting book, or a daily quote to lift your spirits, Good Reads has something for you.?
Get your creative juices flowing by creating some sketches on SketchPad. Don’t worry…there’s an ‘undo’ button :-)?
Enjoy your week. Really…no matter what’s happening today, take some time to enjoy yourself. You owe it not merely to yourself, but to the world.
I’m going to be partner dancing this evening, which is always perfect for getting out of my head and into the flow state.
