Stress Reduction? Part 1
Doug Harmon
Helping change and inspire students, parents, friends and family -- choose JOY!!
I recently had the opportunity to attend a Dale Carnegie Seminar, "Stress Reduction Through New Work Habits". The seminar was presented by John Rodgers. I learned so much that I thought I would share some of the highlights with you.
Did you know that there is a Leadership Spectrum? I knew there might be something like this, but like many others, never gave it much thought. See where you fit in. The first two are not the way to go - soloist & top down. This is like managing with a fist in your face or do it my way or the highway - we know this style does not work. The third is the buddy/boss. Everything is fine until the boss is no longer your buddy and has to take you out to the woodshed. Also, not very productive. Not until we get to four and five do you see the team working as a whole. Four is the adult/adult relationship, where everyone works as a team and there is no fear. Fifth is the Servant Leader, this is where the leader is asking how I can serve others. I like to think that I am a four or five leader. I do try to practice random acts of kindness and serve others.
In dealing with conflict, John gives us three fantastic ways to deal with it....
- Cover - It's not always about me
- Confront - Face the music
- Don't Let It Cork - Must release stress - not by taking it out on others of course
So, this is just a little advice/suggestions that I thought might be helpful for some of you. Just don't stress over it!!
