What’s your Stress sweet spot? According to the Yerkes-Dodson Curve, there is a certain amount of stress needed to reach your peak performance. If you have too little stress, you actually run the risk of getting bored, losing interested, and being unfocused. Engagement is an important factor in peak performance. If you have too much stress, you run the risk of feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and fatigued. These can lead to illness and disease and eventually to burnout.
To help you find your stress sweet spot, it’s important to shift your perspective on your relationship to stress. Not all stress in your life is bad. Remember there is Eustress and Distress. Eustresses are stressors that help you to grow and move forward personally and professionally. Over the next few days, when you catch yourself saying, “I’m so Stressed!” Take a moment to stop, take a breath, and decide what is causing you stress and categorize it either as Eustress or Distress. You can also ask yourself these self-coaching questions:
- What can I learn from this?
- How can I view this in a new way?
- What am I actually afraid of?
Remember, all this month I am offering a promotion on my Stress Management Workbook and Coaching sessions. I would love to be your accountability and thought partner. NOW is the time to re-define your relationship with Stress so that it works WITH you, not against you so that you perform at your maximum potential! ????????
