Stress management Formula

Stress management Formula

The Patanjali Yogsutra says- "????? ?? ?????? ?? ????? ??? ??" or Yoga is the practice of restraining the fluctuations of the mind. So, how to restrain the fluctuations of mind or stop the recurring thought patterns?

THEORY: INPUT X FOCUS = THOUGHT PATTERNS/STRESS

The equation for managing stress revolves around the interaction between input and focus, which shapes our thought patterns.

Inputs can be categorized into Internal (I), over which we have control, and External (E), over which we lack control. However, we always maintain control over our focus.

Thought patterns vary accordingly: Positive inputs lead to joyful thoughts, while Negative inputs result in stress.

In challenging circumstances, it's crucial to either eliminate the input or redirect our focus.

Let's reiterate our theory-

INPUT X FOCUS = THOUGHT PATTERNS

Zero multiplied by any factor equals zero, so

  1. If the input originates externally and is beyond our control, it's best to cease dwelling on it removing our focus from it. And hence- Input X zero = Zero stress
  2. Alternatively, when the input stems internally, we possess the ability to halt our thoughts and redirect our focus, thus nullifying stress. And hence- zero X focus = Zero stress
