This is a funny old time of year for me. It brings back sad memories. My mum got sick every Christmas with mental health issues …so it wasn’t a lot of fun for me (Dad or my brothers and sisters).
Fast-forward, and I still have a bad hangover from those terrible times.
So I was just wondering …
What does this time of year mean to you? And how do you survive it?
I managed to get ALL my brain cells to fire and wire (it was exhausting!), and came up with an inspiring list to get you through the next few weeks.
No.1 on the Xmas A-Z Stress Busting list.
#1 : APPRECIATION
Time to focus on the things you have, rather than the things you don’t (the things right in front of your nose). Like a roof over your head, food on the table, a job, family & friends, your health etc. ...Step away from your WISH LIST!
How will you know you’ve been super successful? You’ll get a warm fuzzy feeling of calm contentment.
How will you know you’ve failed? You’ll be washed away by a sea of sadness, disappointment and anger.
#2 : BOUNDARIES (setting them)
Figuring out how to stop people's ‘stuff’ overlapping with yours
...is a tricky one.
There are only 3 things you can potentially worry about - your business - other people’s business - and God’s business. It pays to know the difference.
It’s hard to turn people away when they ask for help. But you have to learn to to say ‘No’. So pay attention to your internal ALARM that rings when things aren’t right. Notice how you feel inside (agitated, tense, angry, jittery etc), and beware of the emotional vampires.
TIP: Visualise a potentially difficult situation, look in the mirror and repeat 'No' a couple of times (use an assertive, forceful voice). Rehearsal tricks your brain into believing the situation has happened and that you've already achieved your result.
