CHARACTER and STRENGTH

CHARACTER and STRENGTH

First, I humbly and assertively invite you to read and reflect on The value of virtue: 7 reasons why Volodymyr Zelenskyy's crisis leadership has been so effective. It is worth your Consideration, I suggest.

That said, my own sense of enterprise is around exploring and advancing Character and Purpose and Unity... as forces for moving forward together stronger at school, work, business and community. That said, and after the wholly recommended read and reflect above, I now offer these following visuals on Character Strengths and Virtue.

The Myriad on Character

Whether we distinguish between Virtues and Character Strengths or seem them as essentially Attributes... or see all Virtues as Strengths of Character... I offer that Character matters.

From my education and experience, I refer to Virtues as the myriad faces, facets and forms of Character. I also refer to Humanity as our highest standard of such, and inhumanity as our lowest. There is nothing "only" about being human. Finally, I often refer to Character as more than being "good" or "strong" and more like an orchestra with its myriad instruments... or a 118-speed manual transmission (I center on some 118 virtues as noted above) with it's myriad selection of gears.

From my own observation, study and engagement, Character is the appropriate application and practice of Virtues for the situations we face. We can assess a challenge or opportunity and discern on what Virtues need be called upon, in practice. I see Virtues not unlike arrows in my quiver, to be used as and where and how most needed. It is not about being perfect, for that is myth. It is about perfect as verb, the ever learning and growing. As we walk and work through life, Character offers up these Virtues that can best and even more nobly respond where and how and when necessary. Character is myriad in its forms and practice.

My Work and Commitment

Indeed and in deed, my own body of work is grounded in the 30+ year and global Initiative that is The Virtues Project.

My writing and conversations are certainly grounded and founded in same.

As is my exploration of Humanity.

All in all... my Service, work, writing and conversations are grounded thusly and they are part of my own simple focus.

That said, as my LinkedIn profile shares, I am...

  • "Leadership Speaker, Mentor and Coach for Entrepreneurs, Educators and Emerging Leaders building a better world at school, work and community. Business Educator @ CNA. Showrunner, TUGtv. Move forward, together, stronger."

That moving forward together stronger thing is about Unity built upon Purpose and Character. It is about finding how we lead, inspire, educate and unite in a way that we do move nobly and collectively to build that better world at school, work, business and community, locally and globally. Character and the exploration and advancement of Virtues in practice (what I call the Character LENS), is my work. I suggest that it is foundational to our best success, sustainable and sustaining... and it is indeed my LIFE/work, my Service ... my work and Commitment... and my Yield.

Honor and Character

The aforementioned and above linked article ... it references "We found all seven of the key character virtues – humanity, temperance, justice, courage, transcendence, wisdom and prudence...". However we categorize and itemize Character, it has its myriad faces, facets and forms; and they are available to us all... in their practice. My parting thought for now is to consider those you admire. Inventory them. Then ask yourself "What aspects of Character do I see in them?" Then, Honor that, in your own practice. For me, I look at mine and consider same.

Forward Together, Stronger

Character is practiced and developed in times of trail, trial and triumph. Indeed, I see Character throughout these words, which I have personally accepted as my own "Code" to explore and practice... for life.

Generosity, Thankfulness, Trustworthiness, Friendliness, Fidelity, Fairness, Tact, Justice, Humility, Joyfulness, Service, Responsibility, Integrity, Acceptance, Strength, Truthfulness, Righteousness, and Wisdom... they, and more, are present. I humbly suggest we each find our own code of held Virtues and Strengths of Character...

... and own them, in practice... and if you are interested in exploring and advancing same, going forward... follow us at A PEACE of WORK and TUGtv (they are both free and ad free).

Or, even reach out to explore how we do we do what we do. The conversation always matters. And Character, it matters... in times of trail, trial and triumph alike. Build it. The world, locally and globally, needs it maybe even more than ever.

Peace...
