Strengthening Women's Voices in Peacebuilding in Central Africa

Strengthening Women's Voices in Peacebuilding in Central Africa

By Darla Rudakubana

This week, we were in Bangui, Central African Republic, working alongside civil society and international organizations to map women-led grassroots organizations engaged in peacebuilding.

Under the Great Lakes Region Cluster's Incorporating Local Perspectives into the Women, Peace, and Security Agenda (iWPS) project, this initiative assesses the challenges, needs, and best practices of CSOs working on the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Agenda. The goal? To develop concrete strategies that enhance their impact and sustainability.

Why does this matter?

Women-led organizations play a crucial role in advancing peace and security, yet they often face financial, operational, and technical barriers. By mapping these CSOs, we are taking a key step toward strengthening their visibility, access to resources, and influence in national and regional decision-making spaces.

The findings will inform future interventions, fostering collaboration between key stakeholders, including the ICGLR, gender focal points, and CSO networks. More specifically, this work will help connect and support these organizations through tailored capacity-building and regional networking opportunities, reinforcing the implementation of the WPS Agenda in CAR and beyond.

A big thank you to all the partners on the ground who are contributing to this effort.
