Happy Wednesday
In today's newsletter, I will share my observations on Big Data and AI, past present and future.
Staying Connected in a Data-Driven World!
Today, I’d like to share some thoughts that have been weighing on my mind lately.
I want to talk about our data world, especially the challenges of data privacy and why building connections through networking is so important in our field.
If this week’s topic resonates with you please repost to share with your connections.
The Reality of Data Leaks
We’ve all seen the headlines about data breaches, and it can feel overwhelming. Just recently, there have been some alarming reports of significant data leaks that have affected countless individuals.
It’s a reminder that even the most secure systems can be vulnerable. These incidents put personal information at risk and shake our trust in the platforms we use daily.
As data professionals, it’s our responsibility to advocate for stronger security measures and to stay informed about the latest developments in data protection. The more we know, the better equipped we are to help our organisations and clients safeguard their information.
The Data Industry isn’t an OVERNIGHT PROCESS!
Entering the data industry isn't an overnight process, but it doesn't have to be a multi-year journey either.
Here’s what I’ve learned along the way:
→ It's unrealistic to expect to land a data role in such a short time.
→ Quick-fix programs often oversimplify the complexities of the field.
→ While a Master's degree can be beneficial, it’s not the only path.
Personally, I started without a degree and found success.
Transitioning into a data role typically takes 4-8 months of focused effort, while I took 12-18 months to feel comfortable.

I began in data entry, which taught me the importance of data quality, before moving to a SQL developer role. It took a year to gain proficiency, fueled by my desire to learn.
Determination, networking, and a thirst for knowledge are essential, along with strong math and statistics skills. Engaging with communities and attending events were pivotal for me.
If you're feeling discouraged, focus on building your portfolio and networking.
Success in this field relies on understanding business contexts and effective communication.
My journey was challenging but immensely rewarding!
Finding Community with Data DNA
This is where the Data DNA group comes in. I can’t emphasie enough how valuable it is to be part of a community that understands our unique challenges in our field.
Data DNA is more than just a networking group; it’s a supportive space where we can share our experiences, learn from one another, and build lasting professional relationships.
When we connect with others who share our passion for data, we combat that isolation and open ourselves up to new ideas and opportunities. It’s a fantastic way to stay engaged and inspired!
