Strengthening relationships in America.
The Strategic Partnerships Team (SPT) are back strengthening relationships on the east coast of America this week with visits to NYC and Washington DC. Building on partnering visits in September and January, Senior Strategic Partnership Managers, Brendan McGuckin and Daniel Shorr are engaging in a range of outreach to develop our in-market stakeholders and champions and to engage with businesses and investors aligned to the expertise and capability offered by the University of Edinburgh.
The trip coincides with New York’s Tartan Week, a celebration of Scottish culture and heritage, giving the team the opportunity to engage with senior decision makers and businesses who are in town. In New York, the team are connecting with leading companies in financial services, digital health, energy and technology, discussing such areas as sustainability, data science, life sciences and entrepreneurship.
In addition to the activities in NYC, Brendan is travelling to Washington DC to engage with economic development bodies and corporations, taking advantage of the strategic significance of the capital region due to the high concentration of major businesses. This follows the visit made by the Washington DC delegation to the University of Edinburgh in December 2022, hosted by Brendan, Edinburgh Global (the University of Edinburgh’s international office) and Prof Sir Aziz Sheik. This outreach is exploring new relationships between academia, business and local and regional government.

‘It has been great to take a collaborative approach with Scottish Development International’s US team and the Department of Business and Trade at the UK Consulate, as well as business organisations. In addition, the SPT have been working closely with Edinburgh Global, layering on industry engagement to the program of alumni engagement and student outreach’.
Please reach out to Brendan or Daniel to find out about connecting individually or look out for them at Tartan Week’s various events hosted by the Scottish Business Network, the Scottish North American Business Council, the American-Scottish Foundation, the UK Consulate and Scottish Development International. This NY and DC programme, kicks off a busy period of US-engagement activity for the SPT. It will be followed in May with SPT visits with academics to the east and west coasts to promote University of Edinburgh capabilities to corporates and investors, tied to the Boston Robotics Summit and Expo (10th-11th) and to the SynBioBeta conference in Oakland, California (23rd-25th).
