Strengthening our unique partnerships with space clients

Cock Overbeek , CGI’s Global Industry Lead for Space, shares how the CGI Voice of Our Clients (VOC) program help us strengthen our unique partnerships with space industry clients.?

Our space clients, which are mostly large government and commercial institutions, appreciate the CGI Voice of Our Clients (VOC) because we do not talk about the future of our business, but about the future of their business. We literally discuss the future of space with them, such as the trend toward smaller satellites that offer great benefits, like shorter development cycles, smaller teams and lower costs.

In space, we often say that 1 + 1 is more than 2 because it never is just about a single client - it’s an international ecosystem of public and private sector institutions.

Space clients appreciate that what we learn from the VOC discussions influences our approach to their business, so we can closely align our thinking to theirs and be best prepared to add value. I believe this is the main goal of these conversations.?

A unique partnership model??

Another goal is strengthening our relationships. We already have a unique business model with our space clients and, for me, the VOC program is an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of their business strategy, and to define a common strategy for building our space business together. This includes ways to invest with them in solution development. An example is a 5G roll-out accelerator developed by CGI together with the European Space Agency (ESA) that is being recommended by ESA to other companies.

A longer-term view

When I share the VOC insights with clients, I strive to do this from a five-year plan point of view, which is the reality of the space sector. It's definitely challenging to do this, but when we can bring the right insights about what will happen in the coming five years, those insights give clients a lot of food for thought.?

We also analyze the top challenges of our clients in other markets, like communications, energy and utilities, environment and natural resources, insurance, transportation, etc., and show these clients how their challenges can be solved with space-data-enabled solutions. This is a great starting point of the discussions because it shows that space data truly is part of our everyday life.

We discuss multiple countries’ space challenges and trends, and we bring aggregated and anonymous VOC insights from across geographies to our clients.?
