Strengthening Mental Health Care Through Peer Support

MindSpot's collaboration with eFriend

At MindSpot, we understand that mental health care is not a one-size-fits-all journey. That’s why we continuously seek new ways to offer support that meets people where they are. In line with this commitment, we’re pleased to spotlight our innovative collaboration with ICLA’s eFriend, a new program that is redefining how Western Australians access peer support.??

??

The Power of Peer Support??

Peer support brings something special to mental health care—connection through shared experience. This is a powerful approach that compliments traditional clinical interventions.?It offers individuals the chance to talk with someone who has walked a similar path, creating a space where empathy, understanding, and real-life insights flow naturally. Peer supporter workers offer a different kind of guidance, providing practical tips and coping strategies in a safe, non-judgemental environment. This added layer of support can make all the difference on someone’s journey to better mental health. ??

?

Introducing eFriend: A Unique Peer Support Service??

Through our partnership with eFriend, we’re making it easier for people to access peer support, no matter where they are. Offered through MindSpot GP, eFriend provides up to 15 free sessions of virtual peer support via phone or video call. This service is especially valuable for those who face barriers to in-person care, offering a flexible, accessible option that brings support right into their homes. ??

The eFriend peer support workers bring a wealth of personal experience and specialised training to their roles. Each peer support worker has navigated their own mental health journey and is equipped with skills in trauma-informed care, suicide awareness and prevention, recovery approaches, and intentional peer support. This unique blend of lived experience and professional knowledge allows them to create a safe, empathetic, and transformative space for our patients.??

The Impact of the MindSpot-eFriend Collaboration??

Through our collaboration with eFriend, MindSpot has witnessed the profound impact of peer support on our patients' mental health and overall wellbeing. People who have engaged with eFriend describe feeling less isolated, more resilient, and better equipped to manage stress and anxiety. Many have developed new coping skills and found a renewed sense of confidence and hope. But more than that, eFriend has helped people feel less alone. The sense of community and connection it fosters has been a lifeline for many who may otherwise feel isolated in their struggles.??

Embracing a Holistic Approach to Mental Health??

At MindSpot, we believe that mental health care should be as varied and dynamic as the people we support. The collaboration with eFriend is a reflection of this vision. Together, we are showing how clinical care and peer support can work hand-in-hand to create a more compassionate, inclusive approach to mental health.??

As we continue to grow and learn, we remain dedicated to exploring new ways to meet the needs of those we serve, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to access the support that works best for them. The MindSpot-eFriend partnership is one of many ways we’re making mental health care more accessible and meaningful for the people who need it.??
