Transforming Children’s Lives through Family Strengthening
Radhi’s (name changed) journey highlights the power of timely interventions and a family-centered approach to transforming lives. Born into a family of six in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, Radhi was just seven when she and her two sisters were placed in a Child Care Institution (CCI) given their parents’ frequent relocations for work.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, just as Radhi’s family began to regain stability, and plans for her and her sister's reintegration were underway, they faced a devastating loss with the passing of Radhi’s father. Despite the heartbreak, the family found strength through mental health support provided to Radhi's mother and a carefully planned reunification process. In May 2022, Radhi, her sisters, and their brother who was placed in another CCI, were joyfully reunited with their mother, reigniting hope for a brighter future. Radhi’s mother secured employment as a house helper nearby, ensuring financial stability for the family.
The team helped Radhi's mother access the Widow Pension scheme, providing ?1,000 monthly support, enrolled her in the CM Health Insurance scheme with ?5 lakh coverage, and connected her to the local Primary Health Center for healthcare services. To further enhance her livelihood, she was provided with a wet grinder to start a tiffin business, and plans are underway to provide a pushcart with the help of a self-help group to help expand her enterprise and ensure a stable income for the family.
Radhi, now in the 11th Grade, has become a pillar of strength for her mother, balancing her education with family responsibilities. Driven by her passion for graphic design, she dreams of creating a brighter future for her family. Radhi’s story embodies the belief that every child deserves a family that supports and empowers them to reach their full potential. It’s a powerful reminder of how, with collaboration, we can ensure a family for every child and a future full of possibilities.
?Celebrating Minal Doriya
At Miracle Foundation India, we celebrate the incredible social workforce that makes it possible for children to thrive in family-based care. This month, we highlight the inspiring work of Minal Doriya, a Protection Officer (Institutional Care), at the District Protection Child Unit in Surendranagar district, Gujarat.
Minal has played a key role in transforming child protection efforts, focusing on family strengthening and family-based care, while effectively using the Social Investigation Report and Individual Care Plan to assess children’s needs and linking over 3,500 children and families to their tailored social protection schemes. It has further empowered her to identify at-risk children, including those from single-parent households, and design impactful interventions. Her innovative initiatives, like introducing the ‘Mann ki Baat’ suggestion box, empower children in Child Care Institutions to voice their concerns and participate actively. Minal’s quick responses in critical cases, including the rescue and reintegration of a mentally challenged child from Rajasthan, and the safe return of two runaway children from Madhya Pradesh showcase her dedication.?
Through her efforts, she has effectively engaged key stakeholders, including Village-Level Child Protection Committee members, Bal Panchayat members, and community workers, to raise awareness about child protection measures and prevention strategies. During COVID-19, Minal took the initiative to transition 31 children from two CCIs back to family-based care. Through the Gujarat Government’s sponsorship scheme, she secured financial assistance of ?3,000 per month for 31 of these children, providing their families with much-needed support.
Recognized for her expertise, Minal was selected as a Master Trainer in 2022 by Miracle Foundation India, under the joint partnership program of the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Gujarat, and UNICEF India where she has been committed to building the capacity of new team members while her efforts continue to redefine child protection practices in the district, ensuring that children grow and thrive within the safety and love of their families.

From Care to Leadership: Youth Ambassadors Making an Impact
Miracle Foundation India’s Youth Ambassadors, drawn from Child Care Institutions and local communities, play a vital role in raising awareness about the importance of a family for every child and driving meaningful impact. This month, we celebrate Simran Irfan Khan from Pune, Maharashtra, who joined our Youth Ambassadors’ Program in January 2024.
Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree, Simran’s journey with us began as part of the very first Bal Panchayat group, where she discovered her passion for empowering young minds. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked closely with the team to distribute ration kits to families in need. Together with the team, Simran also played a key role in initiating impactful programs such as the Ward Child Protection Committee and supporting activities within the Child Parliament. Through workshops, she gained a deeper understanding of child protection issues, fueling her mission to create meaningful change in her Ramnagar slum community.
Simran’s unique approach to education is shaped by her own childhood struggles. Initially uninterested in studying, she found her curiosity sparked when she explored learning in a way that resonated with her. This transformation inspired her to help others discover the joy of education. Starting with just 4 children in 2019, Simran now teaches 80 regular students. The first student she ever taught now assists her in the classroom, and more youths are joining her, actively contributing to the learning environment. Her initiatives have reached over 600 children, incorporating activities like yoga, life skills, and sports to make learning engaging and fun. Her 2025 goal is to organize 100 interactive sessions to foster curiosity and host ‘Play for Peace’ activities to promote joyful education.
Simran’s journey highlights the power of curiosity and dedication. Through street plays and interactive activities, she empowers youth, addresses their educational challenges, and inspires her community to prioritize child welfare. As a Youth Ambassador, she wants to foster joyful learning and is paving the way for a brighter future.

Consultation on Ending Violence Against Children
Miracle Foundation India was pleased to co-organize the ‘National Children’s Consultation on Ending Violence Against Children’ on November 27-28, 2024, in New Delhi. This program, initiated by National Action and Coordination Group for Ending Violence Against Children, India (NACG-EVAC India), saw the collaboration of several other organizations, including International Labour Organization, Terre des Hommes Netherlands, Child in Need Institute and Childhood Enhancement through Training and Action (CHETNA).
Prior to this national event, children’s consultations were conducted across a total of 21 states, where children elected their representatives to present the issues identified in their respective communities and groups. Additionally, a nationwide questionnaire was shared to gather insights on the challenges faced by children related to violence. The consultation focused on six thematic areas, namely child marriage, child sexual abuse and exploitation, child labour, corporal punishment and violent discipline, child trafficking, and child participation. Children from across states gathered on this platform, offering diverse perspectives and solutions that made the event both impactful and meaningful. The purpose was to listen to the experiences of children from different backgrounds, identify their challenges, and explore effective actions to address those issues. This input is crucial in shaping policies and interventions that can better support children and ensure their rights and well-being.
A key highlight of this consultation was when children interacted with the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child and raised insightful questions. The parallel sessions for adults focused on topics like leveraging Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnerships for social impact, and the need for family strengthening in India among others.?
At Miracle Foundation India, we are proud to contribute to impactful dialogues that strengthen child rights and promote family-based care, ensuring every child grows up in a safe and loving family.
