Strengthening AU-Partnerships: A Trilateral Workshop paving the way for effective cooperation on the AU budget process and JFA.

In a significant step towards enhancing cooperation between the African Union and its partners, a trilateral workshop chaired by H.E. Ambassador Daniel OWASSA of the Republic of Congo -Chairperson of the PRC Sub-Committee for Multilateral Cooperation, H.E. Amb. Nicola Brennan of Ireland and H.E. Amb. Fathallah Sijilmassi from the African Union Commission was recently held at the African Union Commission. Participants included the representative of Egypt ?- Chair of the PRC? Sub-Committee?on?General Supervision?and Coordination on?Budgetary, Financial and?Administrative Matters. AU Partners were also present in significant numbers. The workshop, organised by the Partnerships and Resource Mobilisation Directorate (PMRM) of the African Union Commission in coordination with other departments, primarily Finance and OSPD, aimed to harmonise efforts and maximise resource impact around the Joint Financing Arrangement (JFA) and the AU budget process.

?Key topics discussed during the workshop included:

1. Joint Financing Arrangement (JFA): Central to the discussions, the JFA seeks to ensure successful implementation through harmonised efforts and maximised resource impact.

2. Results-Based Management (RBM): The workshop focused on the evolution of RBM-centered programs, aiming to drive impactful results by prioritising efficient resource allocation and measurable outcomes.

Moreover, participants emphasised the importance of optimising Annual Program Budget Consultation Meetings to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in program planning and implementation.

The meeting underscored the significance of partnership, shared responsibility, and a collective dedication to Africa's development. Both in-person and virtual participants united in their commitment to achieving the outlined objectives for sustainable outcomes.

As reflections on this meeting suggest, while slow and challenging, the path forward is brimming with potential for meaningful progress and success. The foundations established through the workshop promise a future where collaborative efforts, including those of AU's esteemed partners, lead to significant achievements towards the African Union’s budget planning and processes. It was acknowledged during the workshop that by working together, we can build a brighter future for the continent and its people.
