Strength within

Strength within

“I am so young. I don’t think I have the strength to fight for my rights.” These words of a 19 year old girl moved me to a state where I started questioning my contributions to the community I live in. It is so unfortunate that within the “well educated and sophisticated” doors and windows, women are subjected to tortures.

I met this young girl during a short stay in Bangalore and was instantly attracted to her kindness and intelligence. A few chats revealed how she was being physically and mentally tortured by her own loved ones. What amazed me the most was her zeal and curiosity to grow, the way she approached people with utmost empathy and her readiness to help others. Which itself motivates me to "NOT" highlight the plight she goes through every day, but her attitude towards just “being good”.

We all are fighting unique battles. Some battles seem never ending and some come and go by within no time. Learned people tell you to learn from what these battles silently taught you. But do we ever reflect on how we behaved while fighting these battles? Do we go back to people we hurt unintentionally through our words or by our actions? Do we regret for not being present for the people/situation we care for the most?

There are no certain answers to these questions. Some of us would have done it and some of us have not. Some might not even care. And this is the key factor that differentiates “genuinely good people”. It is their “attitude” during the whole battle that empowers them to overcome these fights beautifully. It is the “attitude” that enables them to garner the best support from their people and multiply their strengths.

Being good is an "attitude". An attitude that can be imbibed and practiced. It is a way of living which when combined with kindness, provides a new direction to our communities. And we all have this “way of living” in us which unfortunately fades away in our daily struggles. If we all begin to practice this “being good” attitude in our everyday life, in no time, the miseries of the world shall fade away.

One of the best outcomes of being good is GIVING. It constantly motivates you to give which in itself has an innate nature of duplicating. Love, kindness, empathy, compassion, laughter, happiness, gratitude all duplicate when given. They create magic around you. Giving helps you grow. It helps you realize that your surrounding is growing with you. It assures you that there is a positive change around you and you have contributed to this change.

I read this beautiful example of giving that just sums up this all this. In the Hindu mythology Ramayana, Lord Rama in order to bring back Sita created a bridge to Lanka along with his army. They set up a yagya (a form of prayer) in order to seek blessings from Lord Shiva. The yagya could only be performed by Lord Shiva’s biggest disciple who happened to King Ravana (The Demon King). Being a Brahmin, he was also the most qualified to perform the prayers. Displaying a nature of giving and kindness, he performed the prayers and offered blessings of success and strength to Lord Rama.

Let yourself create and experience the magic of GIVING.
