-Strength for Today-- "Justice Will Be Done." - Romans 12:19
All of us has been wronged at one time or another by someone who has never apologized or done anything sufficient to make that wrong, right. One of the deepest hindrances of “letting go” of that of:
· Bitterness and
· Hurt,
Because we won’t allow the Holy Spirit to guide us to God’s promise of deliverance so that He can “unravel that immoral fabric” that has hindered the human mind due the devil’s “horrible deception”. Therefore, the greatest hindrances to God’s promise, rest on two things:
1. Forgiveness and
2. Letting grudges go.
The reason for this “inequitable mindset” is that we feel if we “let them go” we’d be admitting that “justice” simply won’t be done. So we hold on to anger, and are constantly “regurgitating” the events of the past with repetitive statements such as:
· “It shouldn’t have happened”, or
· “I was wronged”, and
“How can he (or she) be so happy when I’m so miserable?” So we go on and on, and “won’t let it go”. And in the meanwhile our bitterness, like “strychnine” begins poisoning everything. However, the Word given to us in Romans 12:19 is given to us by God, to lift that burden from us. “Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord”
Now, what does this mean to us? God’s Word inclusively instructs us that we should:
· Lay down the burden of anger, and
· Lay down the practice of nursing that hurt with feelings of being wronged.
By “laying that down” doesn’t mean there was no great wrong committed against you. Yes, there was. But it also doesn’t mean there’s no justice, nor you’ll not be vindicated. But it does mean that when you lay your burden down, God will pick it up!
This isn’t a subtle way of getting revenge. But is a way of giving your vengeance to the ONE to whom it belongs. “Vengeance is mine, says the Lord”. In essence God is saying through His Son Jesus Christ,
· “You lay it down”, and
· “I’ll pick it up”.
The Apostle Paul says that we should. “Cast all your cares upon him, for he cares for you” – 1 Peter 5:7. Therefore, we have the assurance that “justice will be done”. What a glorious relief. We don’t have to carry this burden. It is like taking a deep breath, perhaps for the first time in decades, and feeling like now at last you may be free to live and love!
