-Strength for Today- "God’s Antidote for Fear" - Deuteronomy 31:6

     Fear is that one emotion that covets the human mind, and in doing so, it traumatizes one’s reason for believing that God is sovereign, and that His Word alone is absolute. When fear embraces the soul, it paralyzes your faith! Let’s face it, we can all relate to experiencing fear in one form or another. It is a primal emotion, instinctive to our human nature, just like:

·       Grief or

·       Anger.

    You never have to coach yourself in to saying, “I think I need to feel afraid.” You never have to plan for it, fear just happens!  However, fear contradicts faith! While fear says:

·       If this happens, “I will become a miserable failure”, while

·       Faith says, “Come what may, I will be okay because God has promised to never leave me nor forsake me” – Hebrews 13:5c.

   The Lord seldom seems further away than when your heart is filled with fear. Because when you rely completely on worldly resources, when confronted with reality, these things are never enough to sustain you, as the devil stifles you so that fear floods your heart with its culminating stage of disbelief.

    But fear has no place in the life of a born again believer. Because a fearful, anxious response is never from God.  For we are reminded, “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear, but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba Father” - Romans 8:15. Therefore, the only antidote that can heal the fearing soul will not be:

·       The advice from the world’s finest psychiatrist, nor

·       A pristine formula developed in a re-known laboratory.

      But the precise promise of God’s presence! God is with you. “He has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me’ -Hebrews 13:5–6. Let the calm, strong assurance of this precious promise settle into your soul: God is always with you; therefore, you have nothing to fear.

   This promise has sustained believers throughout the ages! Even on his deathbed, John Wesley, the famous revivalist preacher, clung to God’s presence. It is said that as he was being transformed from this life into eternity, yet he held to the promise that God was with him!

   So no matter what you are facing, it is a truth that, God is with us! Even in the shadow of the unknown, we can experience, as did David when He wrote: “… Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me” - Psalm 23:4. The One who knows the end from the beginning, who knit you together and is intimately acquainted with all your ways (Psalm 139:3-13), has made some promises. When fear creeps in, cling to this: God is with you. You have nothing to fear!
