-Strength for Today- “Do You Know the True Sorce of Your Identity?” - 1 Peter 2:9-10.

??Many people find themselves?“attempting to mop?up messes in their lives”?only?“to find that the source that they’re using?“will?only lead to?endless drips,”?of?“consequential?trials.”?Therefore, a “different perspective?should be sought. That?“Source must be One who’s trustworthily.”?

But sadly, too many?people?here in America base their identities on their?“blackness,”?or their?“whiteness,”?or their?“political choices.” or “what they’ve positionally accomplished in life.??But it?you’re?a Christian, “your identity encompasses all the abundance of being a beloved child of God.”?Because when you placed your trust in Jesus Christ your identity?“went?from nothing to something,”?and?“from rejection to being accepted"?

Peter:?

  • In: chapter one,?“says what God has done for us.”??
  • In chapter two,?“he talks about what God says about us.”??

???Now as believers in Jesus Christ,?“he informs us of who we are.”?Verse 9 says:?“you?are?a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of?darkness into His marvelous light.”?

We’re?now “identified with Jesus Christ.”?And in God’s sight,?we’re?now:??

  1. Valued, and?
  2. Capable,??

?That is "a royal priesthood."?Now?“that may sound a little scary to us.”?But Peter is saying that the two benefits that priests have?“are now available to everybody who is a believer in Jesus Christ.”??

  • ??We have direct access to God. We have the right to go directly to God.?“We don't have to pray through anyone else;” “we don't have to confess our sins to anyone else;” we don't have to experience God through anyone else;”?because?“we can go directly to God.”?
  • We have a responsibility?“to minister to the needs of other people.”?Every Christian is a minister.?We’re?"God's instruments to do His work and speak out for Him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference He made for us.”?The priest?“is a bridge builder between God and man.”??

Verse 10?says:?“We?who once?were?not a people but?are?now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.”?So,?verses 9 and 10 says that:?

?3. Now?we’re?forgivable. In other words,?“when we came to Jesus Christ our sins were wiped out.” We’ll not be held accountable for them.”??God is in the business?“of forgiving sin,”?and?“wiping our slates clean.”?So, mercifully,?“when we by faith confess our sin,”?“God forgives us immediately,” and?“without charge as?if nothing had every gone wrong.”?

So, Mr. or Mrs. Christian, do you know?“the true source of your identity?”?God’s Word tells us, as believers in in the finished work of Jesus Christ that?we’re?“accepted,” “valued,” “capable,” and?“forgiven.”?What more could we want??
